Towson University: Grantwriting In Valued Environments Project
Since 2012, Friends of Patapsco Valley State Park has been a Community Partner with Towson University’s G.I.V.E. project. (Grantwriting In Valued Environments) . Under the guidance of Dr. Zosha Stuckey, Associate Professor of Rhetoric & Writing, and Dr. Carolyn Grant, Assistant Professor of Rhetoric & Writing, students write “real-world grants” for FPVSP. Through this partnership, students of Towson University who are studying Grantwriting have the opportunity to choose from the various Park needs, research them, look for compatible foundations for funding and write and submit a grant proposal. Working with Friends volunteers, Park Staff, and their Professors, students get to learn and experience what it’s like to write grants that make a real difference for visitors to Patapsco Valley State Park. From the Hollofield Play Space to AED’s, Ranger Mountain Bikes to Outdoor Projectors in the campgrounds and currently for our Mobile Visitors Center, Towson University G.I.V.E. and the students and professors involved have helped make these and many other additions to Patapsco Valley State Park a reality.
In 2020 our partners our Towson University’s GIVE program is writing grants for:
- AED’s for park rangers and contact stations
- Support for the Mobile Visitors Center
- Discovery Backpacks for youth visitors
- New camping equipment for Operation Campout
- Funding for a historical interpreter
- Funding for a new skid steer for Park maintenance
PVSP is your park, get involved! If you have connections or resources that can help us support the park with these critical items, please contact us at – info@fpvsp.org
“Towson University and their student grant writers have helped transform the experiences of park visitors and staff by identifying and securing funding for the long list of the park’s needs.”
Don Wecker, Director of Grants – FPVSP
